Thank you for choosing to book with us, we look forward to welcoming you to White Linen Whitby. By making your booking you are entering into a legal agreement with us. Reservations are made and accepted on the following terms & conditions:
Access: The guests’ entrance to White Linen is on Bagdale. The property is built into a hill and the guests’ entrance which is at the front of the property is accessed by a sloping path which includes a number of steps and then by a flight of nine stone steps, this may make access difficult for those with limited mobility. These steps give access to the ground floor. We have one guest bedroom (Endeavour) on the ground floor. Our other three guest bedrooms are located on the first floor, and these are accessed by two flights of stairs which are wide with a gentle rise. The Upper Deck Suite is on the second floor and the staircase from the first floor to the second floor is steep, winding and narrow. We strongly urge those with limited mobility to contact us to discuss any special requirements they may have regarding access, prior to booking.
Please note that the rear entrance to the property is no longer used as a guests’ entrance. The rear entrance to the property is the owners’ private entrance.
Adults Only: We are an ‘adult-only’ establishment (minimum age 18). We regret that we do not accommodate babies or children.
Arrival & departure: Check-in is from 3.00pm to 8.30pm on the day of arrival (please let us know if you anticipate arriving after 8.30pm). We will not be able to accommodate you prior to 3.00pm due to the need to prepare your room. Departure: Please vacate your room by 10.00am, so that your room can be prepared for other guests.
Cancellations & payment: (Applies to direct bookings through this website, please note that bookings made by our agents on other sites may be subject to different terms and conditions). When you make your booking, a legally binding contract exists between us. Should you need to cancel, we require 48 hours notice, otherwise any payments will be non-refundable. Should you need to cancel within 48 hours of arrival you will be liable for the full amount of the booking, even if you are unable to take your holiday. For this purpose we reserve the right to levy the credit / debit card provided by you at the time of booking with the amount payable, less any deposit already paid in full and final settlement. Your debit / credit card details will be securely held in the event of cancellation or non-arrival. If you cancel more than 48 hours from your arrival date you will receive a full refund. Rooms may be rebooked subject to availability. Credit and debit cards are NOT subject to a handling fee. We strongly advise guests to take out appropriate travel insurance.
Damages and breakages: We hope that you enjoy your stay with us and we ask that you treat the house and its contents with respect. Please notify us of any accidents. We do not normally charge for minor breakages but you will be required to pay for loss or damage to furniture or equipment. This charge will be made against your credit / debit card and we will provide you with a receipt.
Deposit: (Applies to direct bookings through this website, please note that bookings made by our agents on other sites may be subject to different terms and conditions).To secure your booking a 15% deposit is required. The balance is payable not less than 48 hours before your arrival.
Food policy: Whitby has numerous excellent restaurants. Take-away meals are not normally permitted in the guest rooms. We do realise however, that the world has changed due to coronavirus and that some of our guests may wish to eat a take-away meal in the privacy of their own room. To reduce the smell of food in rooms, we would be grateful if you would please dispose of all waste food and food packaging/containers in the outdoor bin on the front patio. Large bin bags are provided for this and can be found in the bathroom. If you order food to be delivered, can you please ask for it to be delivered to the front door at 24 Bagdale. Please ask the delivery driver to notify you of his/her arrival by telephone and not to use the front doorbell as this may disturb other guests.
Late arrival: If you expect to arrive later than 8.30pm, please contact us to let us know your estimated time of arrival.
Liability: We do not accept any liability for any damage, loss or injury to any member of your party or any possessions, unless proven to be caused by a negligent act by ourselves or our employees or contractors whilst acting in the course of our employment.
Lost Luggage: We can accept no responsibility for any of your possessions which are left at the property after you have departed. If we find any such items we will do our best to contact you.
Minimum stay: Our minimum stay is 2 nights and our check-in days are Monday and Friday.
Noise levels: We aim to provide our guests with a peaceful, relaxing stay and for these reasons we ask that noise levels are kept to a minimum especially after 10.00pm. We reserve the right to terminate your stay immediately without liability for any refund or compensation if you engage in unacceptable behaviour that causes a disturbance or nuisance to others.
Non-availability of accommodation: We would only cancel your holiday if your accommodation was unavailable for reasons beyond our control. We would, however, attempt to offer you alternative accommodation. If this was not possible or unacceptable to you, then we would refund all monies paid by you for the holiday. Our liability would not extend beyond this refund.
Occupancy: Guest Rooms: All of our rooms have king-size beds and the rooms have a maximum occupancy of 2 adults.
Parking: The closest pay and display car park is about 400 metres away, at Endeavour Wharf. There is on-street parking on Chubb Hill, the first half of St Hilda’s Terrace or Spring Vale. These are ‘Zone W’ parking areas. Zone W parking areas are restricted to residents and their guests. If you are lucky enough to find a space in a zone W area we will provide you with a guests’ parking permit, which will enable you to park free of charge, however we can offer no guarantees of the availability of free parking.
Party Bookings: We do not cater for single-sex groups such as stag or hen parties.
Payment: Payment should be made in advance by either credit or debit card. We accept all major debit/credit cards. We regret that we cannot accept payment by cheque. All card transactions are secure and comply with the relevant legal requirements at the time of booking. We strongly advise guests to take out appropriate travel insurance.
Pets: We are sorry but we do not accept pets or any other animals into the house, with the exception of assistance dogs.
Price: We reserve the right to change our advertised prices at any time. The price of your stay will be confirmed at the time of booking and will be guaranteed on payment of your deposit.
Room only accommodation: Our guest rooms are provided on a self-serviced room-only basis, giving guests the guarantee of privacy in their rooms. We do not provide breakfast. This allows our guests the opportunity to enjoy breakfast at a time of their choice in one of Whitby’s numerous excellent restaurants and cafes, most of which are within a few minutes walk.
Safety & Security: Your safety is our priority and the property has a fire safety certificate. Throughout the building we have fire-fighting equipment, smoke detectors, a fire alarm system and an emergency lighting system. Our public areas are monitored using CCTV. Your room has a lockable security cabinet/safe.
Self-Serviced Guest Rooms: Once you check in to your room then it’s your private space for the duration of your stay. If you want to stay in bed until midday then that’s fine by us! You won’t be disturbed by a cleaner! We will only enter your room by invitation or in the event of an emergency such as a plumbing leak or a fire. But please don’t think that we’ll ignore you or abandon you. On your arrival you will find in your room an ample supply of towels, toiletries and refreshments. Our change-over or check-in / check-out days are Monday and Friday. If you combine two short breaks to give a week’s stay then we will be happy to service your room mid-stay on the appropriate change-over day. We will confirm the arrangements for this when you arrive.
Smoking: We are a completely non-smoking establishment and do not allow smoking anywhere inside the building or grounds. This includes the use of electronic cigarettes.
Use of candles: We request that you do not light candles in your room. This is a requirement of our insurers.
Wi-Fi: We offer free Wi-Fi for our guests use. We have a fast broadband service which is accessible throughout the property. You will find the access code in the Welcome Folder in your room. Please note that we have no responsibility for, or control over the internet services you access and do not guarantee that any services are error or virus free. We have no responsibility for, or control over the information you transmit or receive via the service. We do not guarantee the availability of the service, the speed at which information may be transmitted or received via the service. We do not guarantee that the service will be compatible with your equipment or any software which you use.
