Whitby has numerous excellent restaurants, most of which are within a few minutes walk of White Linen Whitby. Many of them specialise in locally caught fish and seafood.

The following selection comprises of personal recommendations and recommendations from previous guests. We would always advise you to check Tripadvisor for the latest feedback before making your choice.

We would also strongly recommend that you to contact the restaurant to make a reservation, particularly in the busy summer period or at times of special events.

Papa’s

Award winning seafood restaurant in the heart of Whitby. BBC’s Award: ‘Britain’s Best Fish & Chips’.  At the end of Baxtergate, adjacent  to  the swing bridge. Tripadvisor link here.

The Four Seasons

The Fishermans Wife

The Star Inn The Harbour
Michelin star holder Andrew Pearn’s latest venture, with views across the harbour and only five minutes walk from White Linen. Tripadvisor link here.

Ditto Restaurant 
Small relaxing restaurant with locally sourced & varied menu. Great desserts, vegetarian meals available. Located on Skinner Street a 5-minute walk away. Tripadvisor link here.

Trenchers Restaurant
Award winning fish & chip restaurant within a 5 minute walk – awarded ‘Best UK Fish & Chip Restaurant 2019.  Serving fresh, local produce throughout the day. Range of vegetarian dishes. Located opposite the Co-op and The Endeavour Experience. Tripadvisor link here.

The Marine Restaurant
Popular, stylish restaurant offering a primarily seafood menu with meat and game dishes available in season, group bookings. Toward the pier on the left hand side. 

A Passage to India Restaurant 
Indian restaurant with superb fresh food served in contemporary surroundings.  Located opposite train station. Tripadvisor link here.

Moutrey’s Italian Restaurant
Italian restaurant with freshly prepared authentic cuisine & contemporary decor. Pizza is made fresh in huge wood fired oven in the centre of restaurant. Situated over the swing bridge take a sharp right and it is on your left hand side. Tripadvisor link here.

Harry’s Lounge Bar & Brasserie 
Popular bar and restaurant, offering a range of wines and cocktails. Head towards the pier on the fish quay. Tripadvisor link here.

The Magpie Café 
Premier seafood cafe overlooking the beautiful Whitby Bay. Situated toward the pier on your left opposite the fish quay. Tripadvisor link here.

The Moon & Sixpence Bar & Brasserie
Popular bar & brasserie. Try to get a table at the front of restaurant to get great views of the Abbey. 

Albert’s Eatery (at the Museum of Whitby Jet): Fine dining inside the world’s leading Whitby Jet museum. Seafood specialties plus many other dishes. On Church Street, just after the Market Place. Tripadvisor link here.

The Orlop Restaurant: Dining below decks on the replica of Captain Cook’s ship at Endeavour Wharf. Breakfast served from 10.00-12.00.

Macy Brown’s   A brand new cocktail bar opposite Endeavour Wharf.  Breakfast served from 10.00-12.00.

The Angel:  A  Wetherspoons restaurant.  Opposite the replica of HM Bark Endeavour . New Quay Road.

Java Café:  Flowergate.  Open from 8.00am.  Traditional and other breakfasts all day.

The following 3 places do not offer a Full English Breakfast, but do serve breakfast-type items eg: poached eggs, bacon roll, croissants, pastries etc:

Botham’s: the one on Baxtergate.(Please note:  Botham’s on Skinner Street no longer offer breakfast)
